Our fighter planes
At MiGFlug, we are happy to be able to offer you flights with the most powerful fighter planes. For more information about a particular aircraft, please use the menu on the right side or point at the direct links to the planes to the left.
In this section, you’ll find technical information and historical background about the jets which you can fly. For specific packages and explanations of the different flight plans, please go to “Offers”.
For a brief summary, see below:
Aero L-39 Albatros
The L-39 Albatros is widely used as a trainer plane for the bigger fighter planes but is seeing duty in light attack missions, as well. This aircraft is ideal for a beginner’s flight: It’s much lower in price than the bigger jets and considerably easy to fly. The L-39 combines low operating costs with an optimal subsonic performance. You’re going to love flying this aircraft – from the very moment you’ll get a hold of its control stick and thus the plane itself.
Advantages: Considerably easy to fly, good preparation for the bigger planes
Disadvantages: Subsonic speed only, a lot less powerful than the bigger MiGs
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 Fishbed (On request)
With more than 12’000 units of it having been built, the MiG-21 Fishbed is the most often built fighter plane after World War II and is still on duty in numerous countries. Our MiG-21 flights take place in the USA, near Chicago. Perhaps, MiG-21 flights in Russia will be possible again in the future. At the moment, though, this is the only plane of this type with which private individuals are allowed to fly.
Advantages: Fly the cold war classic
Disadvantages: Unfortunately, USA regulations only allow subsonic speed for private individuals
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum
Probably the most well-known and dreaded fighter jet amongst western military officers, the MiG-29 Fulcrum remains so for good reason: Its handling characteristic isn’t to this day matched by any of its western counterparts. And today, you’re given the opportunity to fly the bogey of the cold war.
Clearly, with engines so powerful that acceleration during vertical climbs becomes possible, man, not machine, is the limit.
The MiG-29 can be flown only at one airbase in all of Russia. Use this unique opportunity as long as it still exists!
+ Singular handling characteristics | supersonic flights possible
- can’t climb as high as the MiG-31 | no Edge of Space flights
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-31E Foxhound
The MiG-31E Foxhound is the successor to the MiG-25 Foxbat, with which we used to offer Edge of Space flights in the past. This legendary fighter plane reaches the insane speed of 1800 mph! The MiG-31 is a two-seated long-range interceptor which can intercept cruise missiles and shoot down satellites, as well.
The Edge of Space flights with the MiG-31 are a wonderful experience: You climb up to an altitude of 23000 meters (around twice as high as an airliner). As you are now above the atmosphere and at the edge of space, you will perceive the earth below you similarly to what you know from satellite pictures. The earth’s curvature is clearly visible as is the thin curtain of atmosphere surrounding it and above you, space appears pitch-black and littered with stars: An unbelievable moment!
+ Climbs higher than any other aircraft
- Inferior to the Mig-29 with regard to handling characteristics
BAC English Electric Lightning
The BAC English Electric Lightning is a fighter plane that reaches mach 2 and climbs up to an altitude of 22 kilometers. Therefore, Cape Town is not only the second location for supersonic flights but also the only alternative to Russia to get to the “Edge of Space” – vertically and in just one minute.
Space before you presents itself pitch-black and countless stars unveil – during the day. The Earth’s curvature is clearly visible below you – truly a breathtaking view!
+ Edge of Space | supersonic flights possible | seat next to the pilot
- Inferior to the Mig-29 with regard to handling characteristics
B-103 Buccaneer
The BAe B-103 Buccaneer was originally designed to operate from aircraft carriers. Eventhough conceptualized for near sonic speed and low altitudes, the Buccaneer was also intended to carry nuclear weapons. The Blackburn Buccaneer was deployed in the second Gulf War in 1991 where it marked targets and released laser-guided bombs. Apart from the Royal Air Force, only the South African Air Force used the Buccaneer.
You have the opportunity to fly one of the last three Buccaneers.
+ Singular handling characteristics during low-altitude performance
- Subsonic speed only
Hawker Hunter
The Hawker Hunter was used by a multitude of countries. This model is a two-seated trainer version of the extraordinarily agile strike aircraft. The Hunter was originally designed as an air dominance fighter but used for attacking targets on the ground as well as air reconnaissance due to its versatility. Among other countries, Swiss Air Force was using the Hunter and constantly modernizing it until 1994. Two of those Swiss Hunters now fly in South Africa. The Hunter is particularly popular amongst nostalgic persons.
We offer Hunter flights in South Africa and in Switzerland.
+ Very good handling characteristics
- Subsonic speed only
