The L-39 “Albatros” is a further development of the L-29 “Delfin” which can be flown with MiGFlug, as well.
This aircraft can also operate from improvised airfields with minimal equipment. Besides the instruction for bigger planes such as the MiG-29, the L-39 is deployed as a light attack plane against ground targets and as a tactical reconnaissance aircraft. The inaugural flight of the prototype X-02 took place on November 4, 1968. 10 pre-production models were manufactured in 1971 and serial production commenced in 1974. More than 2800 planes of all versions were built. Besides the air forces of the Warsaw Pact, many other countries (Afghanistan, Egypt, Ethiopia, Algeria, Bangladesh, Iraq, Cambodia, Congo, Cuba, Libya, Nigeria, North Korea, Syria, Thailand, Tunisia, Uganda and Vietnam among others) acquired this very agile aircraft.
