There are only two locations worldwide where it's possible to conduct supersonic flights for private persons. Besides the Russian MiG-29 Fulcrum and the MiG-31 Foxhound, the only flights are those with the Lightnings in South Africa. The BAC English Electric Lightning reaches a maximum speed of 2450 km/h at an altitude of 12000m. During customer-flights, speeds of up to mach 1,4 are reached. You can climb to the stratosphere where you reach an altitude of about 22km. Therefore, Cape Town is not only the second location for supersonic flights besides Russia, it is alos the only alternative to advance to the edge of space - vertically and only in one minute!
