MiG-29 Edge of Space flight – the tail of the Fulcrum

How much does it cost to fly a real MiG in Russia? Customers looking for an answer to this question usually refer to the MiG-29 flight – although there are still customers asking for MiG-25 flights, MiG-31 flights or Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker flights. But as we wrote in a blog post about this topic, unfortunately, these marvelous jets are no longer available for flights.

Anyway – the MiG-29 flights luckily still are, and here are the costs of flying a MiG-29 Fulcrum in Russia:

What top speed and maximum altitude can I reach during the MiG-29 flight?

The MiG-29s maximum speed nowadays is limited to Mach 1.7 during the Edge of Space flight, since the engine had to get changed too often before. This is limiting the maximum altitude that can be reached. A second factor is the air temperature. When the air is cold the MiG-29 has more thrust, hence it can reach higher altitudes. This is why we recommend booking the Edge of Space flight in winter.

Now – these are the maximum figures reached during recent flights. Speed and altitude used to be higher (22km, Mach 1.9). And do not worry, we do not treat all customers with 9.2g, the record reached so far. Typically customers experience something like 7.5g – but this really depends on the customer and how well she or he is dealing with g-forces. Higher Altitude is limited at 12km since the customer only wears a normal g suit during the aerobatic flight programs. Above 12km, a high-altitude flight suit is needed.
